Training included familiarization and operation on drafting and use of some of the pumps on our smaller apparatus including our Brush and Foam trucks. We also used our “Turbo-Draft” to supply water to the Deck Gun on our Tanker-Pumper.

Fire pumps on our Engine, Rescue-Engine, and Pumper-Tanker were tested to National Fire Protection Association and Insurance Service Organization standards as part of the Unity Township Fire Bureau’s annual testing program to insure the pumps on all apparatus are in peek operating condition. A third party technician tested and certified the pumps as being ready for service and able to pump the rated water flow in compliance with national standards.
The Rescue-Engine and Tanker were deployed to the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport to assist the airport fire department and Secret Service with stand-by operations for the landing and departure of Air Force One and The President. At the request of PA State Police the Service and Foam trucks were sent to the intersection of Route 30 and 981 to assist with traffic control.
Saturday and Sunday 7 Youngstown VFD members attended an Advanced Rural Water Supply class hosted by Chestnut Ridge VFD. Instructors Henry Lovett of Water Supply Innovations and Andy Soccodato of the Water Thieves demonstrated advanced and multiple intake drafting, apparatus priming without using the mechanical primer, effective tanker dump and fill site operations, the Rural Hitch, maximizing flow, Turbo Draft operations, and many related operations to get more water flowing.
The Engine, Rescue, and Tanker with crews participated in the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport’s Triennial disaster drill. The Engine was assigned to fire suppression, the Tanker to water supply, and the Rescue crew assisted with Rescue. Firefighters also received emergency operations familiarization with the Airbus 320 series aircraft as used by Spirt Airlines. The Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department is always recruiting for new members. If you have the desire to give back to your community, come and see us. We will provide you with the equipment and training needed to become a successful entry level firefighter. If active firefighting isn't your thing, we still have opportunities as an ancillary member. We can always use help in the administrative division. If you can offer assistance with book keeping, accounting, fund raising, legal aspects, etc. please consider becoming an ancillary member.
